Donating to the Tessa Jowell Foundation

Donate and be part of the change to extend and enhance the lives of those diagnosed with brain cancer.

What you’re about to do will ensure that all NHS brain cancer patients have the opportunity to access up-to-date, world-class cancer services.

Whether you decide to make a one-off donation or pledge a monthly gift, we promise that the donation you make to Tessa Jowell Foundation today will be used to transform brain cancer treatment, care and research in the UK.

The UK lags behind other high-income countries for cancer survival rates, with brain cancer being one of the very hardest cancers to treat, with very poor outcomes. We need to change this. Now.

Our vision for the future, as laid out so courageously by Baroness Tessa Jowell in the final months of her life, is for the NHS to be able to provide cancer treatments that consist of the latest drugs and therapies genetically tailored to a patient’s cancer, alongside the bets available care and for this to work in partnership with innovative medical research trials by sharing data, outcomes and best practice.

Our ambition is that every person diagnosed with brain cancer in the UK can choose to access consistently excellent, specialist brain cancer services by the end of 2022 through the Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence programme.

The donation you make today will help make these desperately needed changes happen.

Why make a monthly donation?

As a Foundation that supports and collaborates on the large-scale roll out of brain cancer treatment change, under the delivery partnership named the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission, our work is to provide long-term backing for the Mission and its ambition to build brain cancer services, supported by world-class research, which will improve the survival rates of people diagnosed with brain cancer in the UK.

When you set up a regular donation to the Tessa Jowell Foundation you become part of that long-term work to transform the way the UK treats and cares for brain cancer patients.

For example, by donating £18.50 each month, you could help us set-up and run the Tessa Jowell Academy’s online sharing portal, for clinical staff to collaborate with other teams across the country on new ways of working and treatments, offering direct access to experts and innovators in the field to speed up per-to-peer learning.

Alternatively, a monthly donation of £32.50 from you could provide more specialist nurses to work as part of the highly skilled brain cancer treatment teams across the country. They are so vital in the care, management and expertise they give to brain cancer patients undergoing new personalised treatment plans at the TJ Centres of Excellence.

Why the Tessa Jowell Foundation?

Through the power of Tessa’s legacy and by invoking her spirit of collaboration by bringing together the best individuals and organisations in brain cancer, we are able to influence at the highest levels to make the changes that are needed so that NHS brain cancer services are consistently excellent. By working together we can accelerate those changes. You can be part of making that change.

We do not receive any government funding, so we rely entirely on voluntary donations like yours to fund our work in supporting the delivery of next-generation cancer care and treatment for NHS brain cancer patients.

Please give what you can and donate online now. Thank you for your donation.

How can I change the way the Tessa Jowell Foundation contacts me?

When you give a donation to us, we think it’s really important to let you know how you have helped and keep you updated on our work. Therefore, you might receive a phone call, text, mailing, or email from us with information about our work supporting improved brain cancer care in the UK, and sometimes letting you know how you can help even more.

If you want to change the way that we contact you, please contact us via fundraising@tessajowellfoundation.org.uk

How do I know that my money won't end up in the wrong hands?

We abide by ethical fundraising rules and conduct our own due diligence regarding delivery partners. We will be publishing an annual report every year where you can read about how we raise money and how we spend it.

Members of our staff will conduct regular site visits to monitor spending and progress of the programmes we fund. We will also make payments in installments to enable us to assess the impact of previous funding.

Can I donate specific items like office equipment or medical devices?

Unfortunately, we are not able to receive such items due to the lack of in-house resourcing or space to take on such items.

We appreciate your support, though! There are many charities that specialise in taking on this type of donation.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a simple scheme that allows charities to recover the tax already paid on donations made in the last four years at no extra cost to you. By reclaiming tax from Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), Gift Aid is a great way for you to help Tessa Jowell Foundation maximise the value of its donations. That means that every £1 you donate could be worth an extra 25p to us.
