Aria’s Story

Aria used his experience to help others , inspired by his son❤️

“Graduating from the University of Birmingham Medical School, Aria worked as a paediatric doctor for the NHS. In November 2018, after his son’s arrival, he was tragically diagnosed with a rare brain tumour at 27.

After major surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy he defied the odds and learnt to walk and talk again. Life was restored to a cherished normality for a few months.

During COVID-19 in 2020, the cancer returned three times. Despite more operations and radiotherapy the cancer sadly stole Aria’s life in February 2021, aged 30.

In recovery, Aria spent a lot of time reading and writing - realising it could also help others who have been affected by cancer and raise awareness for brain tumours.

His memoir: Broken Brain: Brutally Honest, Brutally Me accounts a junior doctor and father dealing with the consequences of a brain tumour and explores what it is like to be a patient in the NHS. It was published in March by his family.

Inspired by his son, he published his first children’s book: Eddie and the Magic Healing Stone, which introduces parental illness in a child-friendly way. He hoped he could use the book to explain to his son the concept of illness.

Awaiting publication is Eddie and the Last Dodo on Earth, Aria’s last children’s book, written just before he passed away in February. The story is about family, love, personal loss and how we can overcome it with the strength we have around us.

We know nothing will help Aria now but we can help future generations in his memory.”

Proceeds for Aria’s children’s books work to support a wide range of brain tumour organisations and help spread awareness. His website www.ariatheauthor.com is run by his family and friends.
