The Angel Mums
Turning Pain into Hope for Children with Brain Tumours
The Angel Mums are a group of extraordinary women who each faced the unimaginable loss of a child to a brain tumour. Out of their heartbreak, they found strength, purpose, and unity - channelling their love into action to create change for other families.
Together, the Angel Mums have raised vital funds for the Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence for Children - a programme dedicated to transforming the care and treatment of children diagnosed with brain tumours across the UK.
Courage in Action
In 2023, eight Angel Mums took to the skies - literally - skydiving in honour of their children and raising more than £70,000 for the Tessa Jowell Foundation’s paediatric initiatives.
Since then, the group has grown, bringing together more inspirational parents determined to make a difference. Through their courage and compassion, the Angel Mums became a powerful community of campaigners for change.
Louise’s Story
Louise Fox, a volunteer for the Tessa Jowell Foundation and one of the founding Angel Mums, heartbreakingly lost her little boy, George, to brain cancer just 11 months after his diagnosis.
“Being part of this amazing group of inspiring ladies gave us a positive focus. Together we faced our biggest fears — losing our beautiful children — and we felt a responsibility to raise awareness and funds to stop other families enduring what we did.
We didn’t know that brain tumours kill more of our children than any other cancer until it happened to us. We wanted to turn our pain into purpose, so our children’s lives were not in vain.”
Courage in Action
In 2024, the Angel Mums took on three extraordinary challenges — each symbolising their strength, unity, and enduring love for their children:
Earth – Climbing Mount Snowdon (18 May 2024)
Wind – Wing Walking (9 July 2024)
Fire – Fire Walking (19 October 2024)
These incredible feats brought the group together once again, honouring their children’s memories and helping them feel close to them as they did something truly meaningful in their honour.
Through the Earth, Wind and Fire Challenge, the Angel Mums raised over £80,000 for the Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence for Children.
Their extraordinary efforts were recognised nationally when they were named JustGiving’s “Team Fundraiser of the Year 2024”, a testament to their courage, unity and unwavering commitment to changing outcomes for children with brain tumours.
“We wanted to give other families hope and make sure no child’s life is lost in vain.”

Where the funds go
The goal
Funds raised by the Angel Mums are supporting the creation and rollout of the NHS Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence for Children — a national programme working with every paediatric brain tumour centre in the UK to improve treatment, care, and research.
The adult Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence, launched just two years earlier, have already been described as “unprecedented” and “high-impact” by NHS leaders, proving that this model can transform brain cancer care across the country. Now, that success is inspiring an equivalent programme for children.
To ensure every child with a brain tumour in the UK receives world-class treatment in their local hospital, while driving the research and innovation needed to one day make this disease curable.
